Hacienda presents, by popular demand, the winners of “The Mike Chavez South Texas Music Awards”
2011 as best local conjunto. In addition, Los Nuevos Campeones, one of South Texas’s most
beloved conjuntos has been captured ‘live’ in the brand New CD, “En Vivo (Round 1).”
This CD features all the energy and excitement of their live performances and is a clear
example of why Los Nuevos Campeones has enjoyed such a fan following for over 35 years.
Lead vocalist and songwriter, Ramiro Gonzalez, co-founded the group in 1972. It was then
simply known as Los Campeones. Today in the year 2013, this new version of the band
consists of Ramiro Gonzalez; Harvey Gonzalez (no relation) on bass, formerly of La Sombra;
Tony Lopez on accordion, an accomplished seasoned studio player. On drums is the solid
conjunto beat of a newcomer, known simply as Raulito, and of course the master of ceremonies
and percussionist, Rene Vela who rounds out this group of seasoned pros.
This CD features all original compositions composed by Ramiro Gonzalez and
demonstrates the originality of Los Nuevos Campeones. Songs such as “No Se Que Va Pasar,”
“Ayer Te Vi Partir” and many others lead the way. From start to finish this CD is the
music and the concert of ‘Champions.’
